LAS CROABAS, Puerto Rico – With product placement in the minds of more and more media marketers, the American Society of Magazine Editors today issued updated guidelines addressing the so-called “church and state” seperation of advertising and editorial content in magazines.
The updated guidelines (available here in PDF format
) cover ten editorial topics, including design, covers and product placement and integration.
While the guidelines state “repeated and willful violations will result in public sanction and disqualification” from ASME's National Magazine Awards, it is unclear how many violations would constitute such a disqualification, nor does it define what a “willful” violation is.
