Penton Media’s recent purchase of Aviation Week triggered a reorganization of the company’s aviation media assets. The reorg includes the launch of three new products—an app, a magazine relaunch and a flight-planning partnership with RocketRoute.
Going forward, the group will continue to “launch and attract other products and opportunities,” says Warren Bimblick, Penton’s senior vice president of strategy and business development.
“Penton had strong assets here with AC-U-KWIK, Air Charter Guide, airportdata.com and Aircraft Bluebook,” Bimblick said at 2013 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Conference Monday. “The acquisition in August of Aviation Week, including Business & Commercial Aviation, makes us the behemoth in business aviation.”
Managing Director Frank Craven will lead the group and will oversee the launch of the AC-U-KWICK APP for the iPad, which will offer pilots and other aviation professionals data and services, the relaunch of Business & Commercial Aviation’s digital and print titles set to debut with an Oct. 2013 issue, and AC-U-KWIK’s alliance with RocketRoute that will offer flight-planning services to business aviation operators in the U.S. and Canada.
The acquisition of Aviation Week was Penton’s third since 2010. CEO David Kieselstein told FOLIO: that his plans to turn away from being a traditional b-to-b media player and toward a “professional information services company” will include launching eight new products before year’s end.
