As far as trade beats go, Folio:’s is unique in that, in our own day-to-day operation, we generally have the same goals, face the same challenges, and ask the same questions as the magazine publishers and media brands we cover.
The result, for me, is a perpetual education, a wealth of great ideas about how to produce content that engages readers — and a constant reminder that I’m not actually as smart as I think I am.
In that spirit of education and collaboration, Folio: last year expanded our event offerings to include a new one-day summit specifically devoted to a dynamic yet often underserved segment of our audience: association publishers.
Magazines and the media groups who produce them are the lifeblood of any successful association. They serve as a vital membership benefit, keep constituents in the know, and help drive the overall goals of the association and industry they serve. Association publishers face all of the same challenges as their counterparts in the for-profit world, often with limited budgets and multilayered missions.
Last year’s inaugural Folio: Association Media Summit, held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., gathered together several of the top minds in association media, leaders who have deftly navigated complex challenges and driven their organizations to new heights, for an unbridled exchange of tactics, technologies, and best practices aimed at helping everyone in the room run their operations with greater success — myself included.
This year, Folio: is returning to the National Press Club on March 28 for a second annual summit, and we need your help to make the 2017 edition even bigger and better than its predecessor.
I’m proud to announce our latest addition to the program: Robert Love, the ASME Award-winning editor-in-chief of AARP The Magazine — the most widely circulated magazine in the U.S., and perhaps the world. Bob will deliver a keynote talk drawing on his wealth of experience, not just with AARP, but also from his time with several other of the most influential magazines in the business, including Rolling Stone, Playboy, Reader’s Digest, and The Week, just to name a few.
Elsewhere on the program, attendees will enjoy panels with editors, publishers, and directors from associations like Rotary International, the American Chemical Society, SHRM, the NAACP, the Marine Corps Association, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, among several others.
Watch this space, as well as our Folio: Alert email newsletter, in the coming weeks to meet the speakers and enjoy previews of the wisdom and insight they'll share in the nation's capital on March 28. I hope you'll join us.
