Farm Journal Media announced it will relocate its headquarters to the Kanas City area after 139 years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This move follows the company’s acquisition of Vance Publishing Corp.'s agriculture and produce assets at the end of last year.
The Lenexa, Kansas office will function as the operational headquarters due to its concentration of staff and senior management, as well as its proximity to the greater Farm Journal Media customer base. The location also headquarters the company’s livestock division.
“About a third of our 270 employees are based here and probably 75 percent of our customer base is located within 500 miles of Kansas City,” CEO Andy Weber said in a press release.
The corporation will remain legally headquartered in Pennsylvania, with Weber, president and COO Steve Custer, and CFO Joe Matthews all working at the Philadelphia office.
Farm Journal launched in 1877 as a regional agriculture magazine for farmers near Philadelphia. By 1915, founder Wilmer Atkinson garnered 1 million subscribers across the U.S., according to its website.
Today, Farm Journal Media continues to expand across print and digital. In June 2015, Farm Journal added a fourteenth issue to its annual distribution. Later in the year, the acquisition of Vance assets added AgProfessional, Dairy Herd Management, and Produce Ops to Farm Journal’s large lineup of digital products and magazines that already included Top Producer and Beef Today.
In addition to Philadelphia and Lenexa, the company has offices in Rosemont, Illinois; Southbend, Indiana; Cedar Falls, Iowa; Mexico, Missouri; and Webster City, Iowa.
