SIIA has merged its Association of Business Information & Media Companies division with the Content and Information Services Division. ABM managing director Mike Marchesano will oversee the combined group.
For longtime ABM members, the move is yet another step away from the once-independent association serving B2B media companies. Even when the SIIA merged ABM into its structure, there was some expectation that ABM's identity would remain intact.
The flip side of that, however, is the merging of ABM and CISD obviously offers SIIA some operational efficiencies. This year's ABM Annual Summit and the SIIA Information Industry Summit are now one event, for example.
Plus, the two associations combined have a larger footprint and presumably greater industry influence. "Members will be part of a stronger networked community, allowing them to innovate, create new partnerships, and share best practices for maintaining world-class global media and information organizations," says Marchesano in a statement on the merger.
The two groups are also combining their boards and executive committees with a balance of leaders from both.
